Sugata(configuration) : Shinogi-zukuri, Iori-mune. Shallow curvature leading to middle tip. There is Koshi-hi in Hakiomote and Futasuji in Ura side.
Kitae(forging pattern) : Combination of prominent itame(wooden grain) and large burl grain marks (O-mokume) entwined flowing Masame grain marks in Shinogi-ji.
Hamon(tempering pattern) : Hamon is combination of small gunome and Notare, Habuchi is covered in ko-nie. Nie-ashi(lines projecting into the hardened edge) and sunagashi (brushing nie lines in the interior of temper).
Boshi (tip): The out line of temper is wavy, small circle deeply turned back.
Nakago(tang) : Ubu(unaltered) with Higaki file marks, one mekugi-ana(retaining hole), Kurijiri(rounded heel) signed seven large character that reads No-shu-seki-no-ju-KANE-MASU
The entire configuration of this uchi-katana is rather long, shallow curvature and length of tang became longer, which is a typical shape during Momoyama period. Kanemasu in Mino province was active during early 16th century. The points worthy of note in this uchi-katana is broad-minded works of forging pattern and rich nie activity in the interior of temper. The blade is old polish and as is condition therefore, there are some darkish stains in the ridge on base and small kitae opening under the habaki in omote side (this kitae opening ware is entirely covered in Habaki). However the blade is good condition for the age, well maintained and good enough for appreciation. History :
The shape of this blade is particularly long by the little curvature and length Nakago typical of the Momoyama period. Kanemasu is from Mino Province and was active in the early 16th century.
The specifics of this katana is in great varieties of different technical aspects of grain and Hamon, features a large activity in the forging and tempering.
